Awesome Associates – Ashley Weldon, Marketing Coordinator (Austin, TX)
Meet our Awesome Associate Ashley Weldon, a Marketing Coordinator on our Marketing team in the Austin, TX office. Ashley was nominated by one of her peers for “…always volunteering for any task that needs to be done. She is proactive, hard-working, great at solving problems, creative, and most importantly always pleasant to work with! She has been a great addition to the marketing team and provides so much value to WGI.”
At WGI, we know our success starts with our associates and that’s why we want to share their awesome stories with you.
Hi Ashley! Thanks for talking with us. Tell us a little bit about where you’re from.
I was born and raised in Texas; originally from Tyler, TX, but have lived in and around Austin for the last 18 years. I live just outside of Austin now in a charming little town called Bastrop, with my husband Shawn, daughter Emma and son Jack.
Wonderful. So, what drew you to this profession?
I was the yearbook editor back in high school and started my college career path in Journalism, but then the practical side of me decided to move over into the Healthcare Administration/Accounting field because I thought it offered better job security. After working in those areas for many years, I was called up to the big leagues here at WGI and given the opportunity to go back to my creative roots. I love everything about Marketing from taking pictures and assisting with videos, writing blogs, ordering cool company merch, planning events, co-hosting the company podcast, and so much more.
You seem to really enjoy what you do. What are you most passionate about in life?
Well, I’ve been called a very passionate person for most of my life, which can be a positive or a negative depending on the situation. As far as what makes me passionate… I am still continuing to figure that out. I know I like making people laugh and making them feel at ease and more comfortable speaking up about things. I have no qualms talking to anyone or saying how I feel about something, regardless of how dumb or outrageous it sounds. (I’m sure many of you already know this by now.)
What do you like to do in your free time?
I like to spend time with my family and close friends, preferably doing something outdoors and on/near water. We live right by the Colorado River and are always taking our pandemic paddleboards out when we can! I love riding my bike and exploring; it’s how I clear my mind and come up with my best ideas. I’m also an avid thrift store shopper and score so many great finds and deals that way. I LOVE music and going to live shows and music festivals. I’m also a little bit of a foodie; not in that I dine at fancy restaurants or eat exotic food, more so just that I like food in general and eating it! 😉
If you could have any superpower, what would it be and why?
I’d like to read people’s minds. I feel like I can read people pretty well and usually know what they are thinking or how they are feeling, but it would be cool to know if what I’m picking up is actually what they are laying down.
What does your ideal vacation look like?
Omg, going to Costa Rica!!! We just started planning a family vacation there next year and I can’t wait! If anyone has already been, hit me up with your suggestions and travel tips!
I heard it’s beautiful there, that’s an excellent answer. If you could have dinner with anyone in the world, dead or alive, who would it be?
Oh boy, only 2 people…..this is tough. I love to make jokes and cut up so I think I have to go with Seth Rogen and Danny McBride. I think they are both hilarious and love their style of real-life, sarcastic humor. I know they would both have some amazing and insane stories to share!
What are 2 apps (on your phone) you CAN NOT live without?
Yeah, I’m going to give you 3: Spotify, Instagram, and Waze….listed in order of importance. I use these apps every day, multiple times a day, and couldn’t live without them. (I mean I could, but who would want to 🤷♀️?)
Who or what inspires you?
I know this may sound cheesy to some people, but my Marketing team here at WGI inspires me every day! We are such a fun, eclectic and creative bunch and I love getting to work with these awesome people every day! #livingthedream
Everyone at WGI has a story about why they joined the team. What’s yours?
I originally was hired at Big Red Dog Engineering back in 2016, then joined WGI at the beginning of 2019 as part of an acquisition. Now here we are almost 6 years later and like McDonald’s says, “I’m loving it!”
Thank you so much for talking with us Ashley!
