Awesome Associates – Elena Gurchinskaia, 3D Renderer/Visualization Artist (Austin, TX)
Meet our Awesome Associate Elena Gurchinskaia, a 3D Renderer/Visualization Artist with our PLACE division in the Austin, TX office. At WGI, we know our success starts with our associates and that’s why we want to share their awesome stories with you.
Hi Elena! Thanks for talking with us. Tell us a little bit about where you’re from and where you went to school:
I was born and raised in Russia’s south. Geographically, it is located between the Black and Caspian Seas (and no, it is not really cold there). I’ve wanted to be an artist since I was a child, which led me to art school in the third grade, then to Art College, to the northwestern part of the country, where I attended the St Petersburg Stieglitz State Academy of Art and Design.
That’s awesome! So, what exactly drew you to this profession?
In primary school, I aspired to be an artist, but the persistent image of the “starving artist” pushed me to a more practical major, where I studied Environmental Design, which introduced me to the world of visualization software. I recognized that by combining my traditional art skills with my technological expertise, I could create my dream job.
Nice and what types of projects have you worked on?
I worked on multiple types of visualizations, such as 3d rendering, 2d & 3d animation, and virtual reality. As well as a site plan, cross-section/elevation, and site analysis graphics.
What are you most passionate about in life?
One area that I am passionate about is self-development and self-improvement. I am always looking to challenge myself and learn new things, such as new software. As a visualization artist, I get to see how technology and trends are evolving, and that excites me.
Very cool. What do you like to do in your free time?
When I have free time, I enjoy a variety of activities, one of which is working out at the gym. I also enjoy doing house projects, such as refinishing old furniture to make it appear more contemporary. But, if I’m lucky enough to have a lot of free time, I enjoy doing art, which makes me extremely happy.
Alright now answer me this… If you could have any superpower, what would it be and why?
It would be fantastic to be able to move around in the space right away! Imagine traveling without having to commute.
What does your ideal vacation look like?
Hiking through the tropical rainforest, swimming in the lagoons with waterfalls, feeding giraffes in the Safari Park, and eventually resting on the sandy beach with the glass of Aperol Spritz.
If you could have dinner with anyone in the world, dead or alive, who would it be?
It would be Ernest Hemingway. I have always been fond of his writing style, the stories he wrote, and his adventurous lifestyle.
What would be impossible for you to give up?
Same honestly… Haha, any interesting facts about yourself that you’d like to share?
I used to enjoy a good strong coffee in the morning. One time I traveled to Vietnam, where the coffee from the local plantations was amazing. In the middle of my stay there, I developed a terrible caffeine allergy, because of excessive consumption. But can you imagine my fear before I finally realized what caused this allergy?
Who or what inspires you?
My biggest source of inspiration has always been traveling. Learning about diverse cultures and customs, as well as meeting new people, is something I like doing. This is how I intend to spend my time off. When I return to work after a trip, I feel like I have more energy and creativity.
Lastly, everyone at WGI has a story about why they joined the team. What’s yours?
Long before I applied, I wanted to be a part of the WGI team. I occasionally browsed the WGI website and was inspired by the company’s culture, variety of experience, and diversity of talent.
That’s awesome Elena, thank you for sharing!
