Gary Walker, WGIWGI is pleased to announce that Gary Walker joined the firm’s Structures Division as a chief engineer in its Jacksonville office. Gary comes to WGI with over 38 years of experience with specific expertise in continuous- and simple-span prestressed concrete beam bridges.

He is also well versed in phased construction of existing bridges, design of long-span bridges subject to ship impact, design-build projects, mass transit aerial structures, and quality control. He has worked primarily on Florida Department of Transportation projects and has also worked on DOT projects in Georgia, Washington, Ohio, Texas, and Missouri.

Moving forward, Gary will utilize his experience by working collaboratively with WGI’s Structures group – providing quality control/quality assurance, mentoring, and marketing in Florida.

Gary said, “I’m excited to be able to use my many years of experience to help other engineers provide quality projects to our clients. Mentoring of our talented younger engineers will not only assist them in developing engineering skills, but it will also teach me how to become a better engineer.”

David Wantman, PE, and president of WGI, says, “In addition to Gary’s close to four decades of exemplary bridge design experience, we are extremely lucky to have him enthusiastically mentoring the younger members of our Structures teams. His deep knowledge of Florida Department of Transportation projects is an invaluable asset for him to pass along, strengthening WGI’s Structures Division all the more.”

Gary is a registered professional engineer and holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Civil Engineering from the University of Florida.
