Surveying aviation areas presents a logistical challenge, requiring we safely gather highly accurate information to support airport operations in the shortest possible time. Airports can’t be shut down nor can air traffic be diverted simply to perform a survey, so WGI typically utilizes mobile LiDAR and aerial data acquisition to quickly and accurately gather information to meet relevant FAA guidelines.
Mobile LiDAR eliminates traditional survey safety issues, collecting critical airfield measurements in a single pass at highway speeds — the ideal tool for acquiring large amounts of data within the limited access windows associated with operating airports. We rely on it, and other geospatial technologies, to perform runway mapping, pavement and runway deformation assessment, and surveying for airport master plans.
