SR 710/BIG JOHN MONAHAN BRIDGE
Martin County, FL
The Big John Monahan Design-Build project increased capacity and improved safety by upgrading a two-mile section of Martin County’s primary roadway, SR 710, and replaced the high-level Big John Monahan Bridge over the St. Lucie Canal. Leveraging the design-build process, WGI’s team reduced the bridge length by more than 50%, saving the State of Florida nearly $15 million. That 1,000-foot reduction was achieved through diligent research, meetings with adjacent landowners, collaboration with our build partner, and the resulting innovative approach which included acquiring right-of-way from a willing seller. This project has received five awards, including the Design-Build Institute of America – Florida Chapter’s Best Overall Design-Build Project of the Year in 2014.
