HERNANDO COUNTY I-75 WIDENING/PERMITTING AND GOPHER TORTOISE RELOCATION
Initially, 31 ponds were proposed for construction for this 13-mile roadway-widening project. However, the final design significantly reduced that number. As a result, wetland impacts and the potential effect to threatened and endangered species were lessened. All permitting for wetlands, threatened and endangered species, and gopher tortoise relocation were provided. WGI’s approach resulted in major reductions in mitigation and relocation costs. Only 20 gopher tortoises, out of an estimated 100, had to be relocated, while wetland impacts were reduced by 2.24 acres.
