STERLING RANCHES PUD
WGI worked with the Town of Davie, Central Broward Water Control District, Broward County Environmental Protection and Growth Management Department, South Florida Water Management District, and U.S. Army Corps of Engineers to obtain permits for impacts to natural resources on the 97.23-acre property, including protected trees, wetlands, and surface waters.
WGI designed an 11.51-acre preserve area including multiple wetland habitats and buffer areas to preserve 38% of the wetland functions on the project site. The wetland preserve included freshwater marsh, hydric tree islands, transitional marsh area, deep water habitat, and a wetland buffer. A duck box and an osprey perch were constructed within the preserve. The preserve system was designed to mimic natural Everglades characteristics including tear drop-shaped tree islands and bowl-shaped deep water refugia to concentrate prey during low water levels.
WGI currently performs regular maintenance of the wetland preserve including the monthly management of exotic and nuisance plant species, as well as monitoring and reporting on the establishment and quality of the wetland preserve.
