NORTH JUPITER FLATWOODS NATURAL AREA
As part of a Palm Beach County initiative to provide new passive park systems for hiking and recreation, a fishing pier and approximately 350 feet of meandering elevated boardwalk were designed through the North Jupiter Flatwoods Natural Area. The boardwalks and observation platforms were designed to traverse wetlands and allow visitors to observe birds and other wildlife in the natural surroundings.
Along with the park improvements, the structural components of a new wooden boardwalk supported on concrete piling were designed. Ipe wood and Brazilian hardwood were used for the decks and railing system, combined with the concrete foundations for the boardwalks, to provide safe, low-maintenance facilities for long-term use by visitors to the nature trails and park.
