SR 786 (PGA BOULEVARD) RECONSTRUCTION FROM SR 710 (BEELINE HIGHWAY) TO THE C-18 CANAL
Palm Beach County, FL
This project included the design and reconstruction of approximately two miles of PGA Boulevard from Beeline Highway to the C-18 Canal. The improvements included raising the existing roadway to create a two-lane undivided facility, while also incorporating a new single-span bridge, a critter crossing, and multiple culverts.
A less expensive and more environmentally accommodating design was created to protect those sensitive areas. By reducing the width of the main bridge over the Loxahatchee Slough, the project cost was reduced, a wider and more usable wildlife crossing was incorporated, all hydrologic restoration and recreational access goals of the department were retained, and jurisdictional wetland impacts were lessened. The plans also included significant erosion control to protect the pristine waters of the Loxahatchee Slough.
