TWO LAKES AQUABELLA 1 & 2
This 56-acre property contained two abandoned quarries surrounded by cattle pasture, animal pens, a slaughterhouse, cattle feed tanks, and equipment storage facilities. After documenting that the groundwater and lakes were contaminated by ammonia from an offsite landfill on an adjoining parcel, guidance was provided for the excavation and removal of those soils.
Although the muck soils around the lakes contained arsenic, a Natural Background Determination was conducted that successfully demonstrated that the arsenic was naturally occurring. A soil management plan was developed showing it was safe to manage the muck onsite instead of disposal offsite, resulting in a cost saving of over $1M.
