SOUTHBOUND I-95 WEIGH-IN-MOTION STATION
Martin County, FL
The I-95 Weigh-in-Motion (WIM) Station was a multidisciplinary effort involving roadway, architectural, drainage, environmental permitting, signing and pavement markings, signalization, roadway lighting, electrical, mechanical, structural, and landscape architecture design. It also included site civil providing for potable water, self-supportive septic treatment, a package water treatment plant, and an emergency power generator.
Its Weigh-In-Motion/static scale system sorts potentially overweight and over-height trucks by requiring those potential violators to travel through the station. It is the first station in Florida to weigh trucks in motion with sensors embedded in the outside at-speed travel lane of I-95. In addition, the main administration building for the station is Florida’s first LEED Silver Certified weigh-station facility.
The design of this innovative, safe, environmentally sensitive, and operationally efficient project received an Honor Award from the Florida Institute of Consulting Engineers.
