SR 710/BIG JOHN MONAHAN BRIDGE
Martin County, FL
Considered a monument project in Martin County, the Big John Monahan Design-Build increased capacity and improved safety by upgrading a two-mile section of the county’s primary roadway, including replacement of its fixed-span, high-level Big John Monahan Bridge over the St. Lucie Canal – a project not only practical and necessary, but aesthetically engaging and safe for pedestrians and bicyclists.
WGI’s team reduced the bridge length by more than 50%, saving the State of Florida nearly $15 million. That 1,000-foot reduction was achieved through diligent research, meetings with adjacent landowners, and a resulting innovative approach that included acquisition of right-of-way from a willing seller.
