Spectrum-Blodgett Hospital North Deck
The first five supported deck pours have been completed at Spectrum-Blodgett Hospital’s North Deck. The parking structure will provide parking for hospital employees and visitors to the East Grand Rapids, MI hospital campus.
The 566-space parking structure is being constructed of cast-in-place, post-tensioned concrete supported on spread footing foundations. Façade treatments include exposed portions of perimeter concrete retaining walls and precast spandrels mounted to the building columns.
The current construction is three levels, two of which are enclosed below grade, but there is the capacity for future vertical expansion consisting of either additional levels of parking or medical office building space
The project is being managed out of the Parking Division’s Kalamazoo office with Gail Vasonis serving as the project manager and Greg Ehmke as the lead structural engineer and engineer of record. Emma Floyd (Kalamazoo) and Amir Ashtari (Dallas) assisted with the design effort.
The parking structure is anticipated to open in October of this year. Once the North Deck is open the existing parking structure, located at the south end of the hospital campus, will be demolished and replaced with a new South Deck. For many years, the Parking Division’s Restoration group has been specifying repairs on the existing structure, which is now at the end of its useful life.
WGI’s Parking Solutions Division has provided engineering and design services for dozens of parking structures across the country.
