THE ENGINEERS’ COUNCIL HONORS WANTMAN GROUP, INC. WITH DISTINGUISHED ENGINEERING PROJECT ACHIEVEMENT AWARD

April 2014

Wantman Group, Inc. (WGI), is pleased to announce it won The Engineers’ Council Distinguished Engineering Project Achievement Award for the Dixie Highway Flyover. WGI was honored for its strong project management and role as lead designer on this much-anticipated design-build flyover between Palm Beach and Broward Counties.

dixie-photo.jpgWGI designed the Dixie Highway Flyover to provide the best long-term solution for the environment, future maintenance, and to ensure future generations of vehicular traffic, pedestrians, mariners, bicyclists, and rail traffic will operate safely for years to come.

As lead designer, WGI skillfully realigned Dixie Highway from south of Hillsboro Boulevard in Broward County to north of the Hillsboro Canal in Palm Beach County. Considerable challenges were overcome to deliver this project 95 days ahead of schedule and $7.5 million under budget. WGI successfully maintained timely, open communications among all sub-consultants, contractor Cone & Graham, Florida’s Department of Transportation (FDOT) Project Manager, the cities of Boca Raton and Deerfield Beach, and all other stakeholders. Precise coordination with the Florida East Coast Railway was critical for scheduling, safety of all workers, and maintaining uninterrupted rail service.

The team of WGI and Cone & Graham was the first to receive a perfect Contractor’s Past Performance Rating of 110 on a large-scale design-build contract. “The design-build team submitted its plan components in a timely manner, avoiding a delay at the start of construction activities. The team worked tirelessly to address all concerns. Timing was critical and the team delivered all components within the schedule duration without any extra time,” said Nadir Rodrigues, Project Manager, FDOT District 4.

“The success of this project was nothing short of phenomenal,” said David Wantman, PE, President of WGI. “This critical design-build was truly a team effort, and a testament to WGI’s innovative and outside the box thinking. I could not be more proud of our entire team, as this is truly a shining moment for WGI”.

WGI has consistently worked with FDOT for over 40 years. As a multidisciplinary consulting firm, WGI has six offices throughout Florida and is comprised of eight separate divisions devoted to the following disciplines: Civil Engineering, Municipal Engineering, Transportation Engineering, Surveying and Mapping, Subsurface Utility Engineering, Construction, Environmental, and Planning services. WGI is among the 437 private-growth companies that were Hire Power Awards honorees for 2013 and is featured in the 2nd annual edition of Inc. Hire Power Awards, recognizing the private businesses that have generated the most jobs since 2012. Additionally, The South Florida Business Journal recently ranked WGI number 6 on the “Top 25 Engineering Firms in South Florida” list.
