As ardent supporters of the communities in which we live and work, WGI’s Structural Systems Division proudly donated its time and services to The Andrew “Red” Harris Foundation’s artificial reef deployment 1.5 miles offshore of the Jupiter Inlet in 50 feet of water.
Dedicated to building artificial reefs to preserve and enhance the marine environment in northern Palm Beach County, the Foundation specifically raises funds to build what are known as “reef cells” that are then donated to the Palm Beach County Artificial Reef Department for deployment on sites permitted for artificial reef construction.
WGI provided engineering analysis and production drawings that allowed the Foundation to gain approval from the County. WGI analyzed the free-form modules for structural integrity and stability and worked with the fabricator to create a design that was easy to construct and met the requirements for deployment in the ocean. The modules will support coral growth, provide habitat for fish, and provide a base for sustainable marine growth.
The reef cell modules that best suit our oceanic environment do not meet conventional design criteria. With a reputation for providing services on challenging and unusual projects, WGI was eager to use our specialized knowledge and skills to help support this great cause and have a positive impact on the environment.
Most recently, WGI completed the engineered drawings for the 17-foot tall, 20,000-pound Jupiter Lighthouse replica, deployed in the middle of the Andrew “Red” Harris No Shoes Reef site off the Jupiter Inlet.
