Coral Springs Improvement District (CSID) experienced a failure of Plant D Clarifier and drained the structure for inspection. The failure caused major spalling and displacement of concrete topping and buckling of the steel truss scaper.
WGI provided a visual inspection and non-destructive testing. An investigation report was presented to CSID outlining various rehabilitation options. WGI conducted further field measurements of inner tank launderer, stiffeners, tank thickness, anchorage angle size, and thicknesses, baffle wall dimensions, height, thickness, connection type to outer and inner walls, catwalk dimensions, size, spans and connections, and penetrations through the inner and outer tanks.
WGI prepared structural design, detailing, and construction documents for the rehabilitation of the clarifier, which consisted of a base map development, perimeter tie-down calculations, details, and drawings; interior slab redesign details and drawings; baffle wall design details and drawings; catwalk and stair reinstallation details and drawings; pedestal design and detailing and miscellaneous details for piping
and mechanical equipment support.
Construction phase services included shop drawing reviews, wall and sloped floor rehabilitation including reinforcement and concrete pour observation, inner tank re-anchorage observation, baffle wall reconstruction framework and reinforcing observation, sump rehabilitation, center
tank, catwalks and baffle wall catwalk observation, observation of mechanical piping support, pedestal supports and wall penetrations. Upon completion, record drawings were provided.
