The City of Madison procured a vertical expansion to a parking structure used by downtown workers and visitors. The addition of a brick and precast/prestressed concrete façade dramatically improved the structure’s appearance. The expanded levels were set back to reduce massing. A lightwell and lighting improvements were made to enhance user comfort, safety and security. Provisions were made to add a skywalk to connect to the Madison Area Technical College.
This project received the International Parking Institute’s Award of Excellence.
• Four-bay side-by-side double-thread helix with two-way traffic
• Extended the four existing stair towers with increased glass area in three new levels
• Two elevators added in the southeast corner
• Cast-in-place post-tensioned concrete long-span beams and slabs
