The Glassworks Building is the center of this exciting development that features office space, condominiums, glass studios, a rooftop terrace and parking structure. Formerly the Snead Manufacturing building — Louisville’s first concrete building built in 1909 — the developer preserved features of the original building in the building’s conversion from its former industrial purpose, including concrete staircases, huge concrete pillars and massive steel doors with counterweighted pulleys.
Although the developer was also responsible for the design and construction of the parking garage, the Parking Authority of River City (PARC) assumed responsibility for long-term maintenance and operations of it, and as a result, retained WGI to review the parking structure’s design and assess how the structure would perform regarding maintenance, future repairs and service life. In addition, PARC also requested that WGI monitor the progress and quality of construction and confirm that the parking structure was constructed in conformance with the final design drawings.
The 427-space parking structure will serve patrons and tenants of the Glassworks Building, as well as employees of ZirMed, a fast-growing company that develops technology related to billing and collections for health care providers.
