The La Crosse Center, a convention hall and arena, is located in the heart of downtown and was originally built in 1980. Twenty years later, it nearly doubled in size with a $14 million expansion.
The most recent change to the La Crosse Center was a parking structure expansion and a 50-foot skywalk spanning over Second Street—both designed by Carl Walker, Inc. The two-level vertical expansion provided 370 additional parking spaces for the adjacent La Crosse Center, hotel patrons and area retailers. In addition, a brick façade at the stair/elevator towers substantially improved the appearance of the structure.
• Three-bay double-thread helix with one-way traffic
• Cast-in-place post-tensioned concrete long-span beam and slab addition
• Upgraded signage, lighting and snow chutes
• Construction techniques and corrosion inhibitors that maximize long-term durability
• Elevator replaced with glass-backed elevator
• New glass-backed elevator adjacent to the southwest stair tower
