WGI’s structural systems developed multiple design and construction documents for Safety Improvements at the Lake Worth Water Treatment Plant. WGI’s services included the design and detailing of the roof penetrations for the proposed Unifilter Dust Collector bottom flange mounted equipment, the design and detailing of the proposed modifications to the lime silo bins for four observation hatches for installation of safety gratings or bars, and the design and detailing of access stairs to the lime silo bins in order to replace non-compliant stairs.
Additionally, WGI developed numerous safety improvements based on a safety audit performed on the overall plant. As part of the services, a map of the WTP facility was developed to depict the locations of each identified hazard. Two construction bid documents were produced. One document addressed the upgrades at the Lime Basin. The second document addressed the balance of hazards at various locations throughout the plant. The documents included construction details for fall protection, railing, the addition of toe boards, additional railing, cross-over stairs, ship ladders, grating stabilization, and warning signs. The Safety Upgrade construction documents were presented in two volumes for bidding and construction.
