The Parkville Condominiums Parking Garage has precast/prestressed concrete double tees with cast-in-place topping construction. The structure provides parking for condominium owners’ use. There is one supported level at grade and one below-grade level.
The garage was originally constructed in 1962. The precast concrete double tees experienced significant flexural cracking due to an overload from heavy truck traffic.
Existing cracks were epoxy-injected, and carbon-fiber strips were applied to the underside of the stems of the double tees. Cracks in the floor were sealed, and spalled concrete was repaired by patching. Floor drains were installed to improve drainage.
Signs were posted to indicate the 7’-0” clearance and 5000-pound maximum vehicle weight to avoid serious overloading of the parking facility in the future.
