Mechanical, electrical, fire protection, and plumbing design phase services were provided for a new 54,000 square-foot, two story building for the County Supervisor of Elections (SOE) and the County Data Center (later renamed the Pasco County Technology Center). The SOE is on the first floor and the Data Center on the second floor. The HVAC design included a life cycle cost analysis to select the best system for the building. Based upon the LCCA and input from the County maintenance department, a DX spit system approach was chosen, with hot gas reheat for humidity control. Redundant (N+1) air handlers and condensing units were specified to serve the data center. Electrical design includes a 500 KW generator and automatic transfer switch to serve the SOE and a 1000 KW generator and automatic transfer switch to serve the Data Center.
The design utilizes a manual transfer scheme with kirk key interlock and load shedding to allow the 500 KW generator to be used as a second back-up generator for the Data Center. The Data Center is also designed with a 2N, 180 KVA uninterruptible power supply system. Telecommunications design includes the voice/data network infrastructure for the SOE, along with an access control security system, and infrastructure for County audio-visual systems, plus the fire alarm and monitoring system for the building. Fire Protection design includes a wet pipe sprinkler system, fire pump and design for clean agent fire protection systems (Saphire) for critical spaces such as the Data Center, UPS Room, SOE Records Storage, main electrical room, etc. The project is applying for LEED Silver certification, so the HVAC system is designed with an energy recovery system, cisterns for storage of the condensate for reuse for irrigation and grey water for flushing of plumbing fixtures, plus energy efficient lighting systems.
