Philadelphia Newspapers, Inc. chose an old rail yard for the site of this five level 533-space parking structure. WGI (formerly Carl Walker, Inc.) designed an innovative foundation and a unique column arrangement to avoid existing foundations and a wall. Because of its potential for faster project delivery, the owner utilized the design/build method to meet the corporation’s immediate parking needs and make way for other expansion and modernization plans for the newspapers.
Project Highlights
• Precast/prestressed concrete structural system and façade
• Durable, low-maintenance facility
• A single-thread helix provides easy access to the five levels of parking
• First-floor space provided for the newspaper’s make-ready area
