This 96-acre agricultural property had a maintenance area with a pole barn that had a history of agrichemical use. While the seller had conducted their own environmental assessment and cleanup efforts, the prospective buyer enlisted WGI’s expertise to verify the assessment’s accuracy and manage the cleanup process. WGI identified concerns that needed to be identified by the seller or their consultant, including leaking petroleum drums, buried debris, a discarded transformer, and inadequate assessment of ditches. Contaminants of concern were arsenic, dieldrin, petroleum, and PCBs. Remediation included drum removal, demolition of the pole barn, and soil removal. Throughout the assessment and remediation phases, WGI ensured that all environmental issues were thoroughly addressed to the satisfaction of both the seller and buyer. WGI also conducted an assessment of wetlands, trees, and wildlife and provided guidance on the environmental permitting process to convert the land to residential use.
