UNC Charlotte - East Deck 3

This largely commuter college, located in the rapidly developing commercial city of Charlotte, was experiencing explosive growth in enrollment and an increased need for convenient parking. The design team incorporated significant features of the adjoining garages, while adding pleasing aesthetics, improved functionality, pedestrian-friendly corridors and enhanced durability and maintenance features.

Project Highlights:

• Three-bay structure with two-way traffic on center ramp and one-way traffic aisles and angled parking on flat bays
• One glass-backed elevator tower; two open-air stair towers with connecting elevated walkways to the parking areas
• Elevated vehicular connections to an adjacent parking structure create a union with an integral 2,000-car parking system
• Cast-in-place post-tensioned concrete structure, long-span beams and slabs on deep foundations
• Façade treatment consists of brick veneer with precast accent lintels
