Project Details

WGI performed a QA/QC peer review of this new 105,000 square-foot building, which provides faculty members and graduate students with teaching and research space, including complex research labs for robotics and artificial intelligence.

Project Highlights:

• Structural framing consists of an efficient design of slab on deck, supported on composite steel beams
• Four-story building is constructed into a steep slope
• Stacked design follows the contour of a hill, and there is a 40-foot difference in grade change from the bottom of the building to the top, with each floor successively becoming larger
• Building is directly linked to the existing Dow Building at the ground floor and required an innovative concrete-block hybrid firewall design
• Poor soil conditions further complicated the below-grade work
