University of Texas Brazos Garage

Built to be the gateway to the south end of the campus, the attractive and user-friendly Garage No. 3 provides parking for students, faculty and special events attendees. Parking access and revenue collection is accomplished via card-key access and automated payment machines. Other user amenities include closed-circuit television, glass-backed elevators, open stairs and enhanced lighting.

Originally designed as a cast-in-place structure, the design was changed to precast, resulting in a savings of nearly 10 percent.

This project received the Award of Merit in Parking Design from the International Parking Institute (IPI).

Project Highlights:

• Four-bay side-by-side helix with angled parking and one-way traffic
• Two glass-backed elevators and three open stair towers; stair elevator tower at north end overlooks landscaped plaza
• Precast/prestressed concrete construction; structural precast spandrels with inlaid brick; drilled pier foundations
