The Urban Roots New Farm Master Plan was developed for a site located on +9.4-acres in South Austin on 4711 Winnebago Lane. WGI worked with the design team to prepare a master plan design that includes farmland and orchard areas, greenhouses, teaching facilities, tractor and equipment storage, a parking lot, and utility connections to serve the Urban Roots volunteers, mentors, and students participating in the education and development programs. The New Farm facilities will allow students the experience of growing fruits and vegetables from seed to produce, and then manage the business of selling the produce to the public.

Project Highlights:

• Providing a location where mentors and students can interact to learn about growing produce and how the farming business works at the education center.
• Providing new utility connections designed to serve the power and water needs of the production and teaching facilities on the farm.
• Providing a parking lot for mentors, students and customers to easily access the farm, learning, and sales locations on the site.
• Providing multiple design options for the phases so that the scope of the construction project could meet the needs and budget of the Urban Roots team.
• Preserving a natural buffer around the site to give a feeling of pastoral land in the middle of Austin and isolate the farm and orchard land from adjacent neighborhoods.
