Washtenaw Community College is a very rapidly growing community college in southeast Michigan. Because of its high number of commuter students, the college has been experiencing increasing challenges in its attempts to provide adequate parking for students, faculty and staff. Recent and planned development projects throughout the main campus continue to place pressure on the college’s parking system to the point that structured parking is being considered.
Washtenaw Community College is exploring the possibility of building a parking structure on campus, located in an undeveloped area east of the Crane Liberal Arts & Science Building and south of the Campus Green. The proposed parking structure will be approximately 600 spaces with considerations for future expansion. It is anticipated that the parking structure will be used by faculty, students, staff and campus visitors.
WGI developed several parking structure concepts and presented a report with the most promising options. It has been determined that a maximum of three bays should be considered, minimizing the impact on the wooded area to the south.
