WGI was initially contracted to evaluate the facility’s evaluation to assess its current condition and provide recommendations for a 10-year repair and protection plan. Although the structure was in good condition, leaking and water damage to structural steel fireproofing were prevalent. A restoration program was developed to address damaged areas and provide waterproofing protection to eliminate leaking and reduce future maintenance costs.
WGI designed and provided construction administration services for repairs to the facility and waterproofing protection, which included minor concrete repairs and curbs installation to prevent further damage to structural steel fireproofing and installation of a traffic-bearing membrane.
Located directly above the main lobby of a downtown Chicago high-rise, project phasing was critical in the project’s performance. Phasing was closely coordinated with the Owner during the project to minimize the impact of the work on the Office tenants above and lobby below. The project phasing was also designed to allow ongoing use of the facility during repairs.
