WGI completed analysis and limited materials testing of the vaulted sidewalk at 610 South Canal to provide a condition assessment and estimate of the structure’s remaining service life. WGI personnel reviewed the structural system, including cast-in-place concrete slabs, beams, and columns. Materials testing included soundings and chloride-ion content of the sidewalk slab.Â
Generally, the sidewalk and vault were in poor condition and, without significant repairs, had a remaining service life of fewer than five years. The materials testing returned chloride-ion content in the concrete well beyond the threshold required for ongoing corrosion.Â

Immediate repairs were recommended, consisting of complete removal and replacement of the sidewalk system.Â
