Accident Fund Holdings, Inc., the No. 1 provider of workers’ compensation insurance in Michigan, relocated its national headquarters to the historic Ottawa Street Station power plant in downtown Lansing. The project included renovation and preservation of the historic power plant on the Grand River and construction of a 100,000-square-foot office building and 1,010-space parking structure.
The design-build parking structure includes a ramping and entry/exit capacity to accommodate morning and evening peak traffic. The architecture includes a stepped set-back along the north side to reduce the perceived mass of the structure. Passive security features include glass-enclosed stairs, glass-backed elevators, open space with clear sight lines, emergency call stations and uniform lighting. A vehicular bridge offers second level street access at the north end of the structure.
