The Adrian College Stadium Concourse was built in 2006/2007 and covered a 12,000-square-foot area. The concourse is located between the football stadium and the Merillat Sport and Fitness Center; buildings such as the President’s Suite, concessions, and the press box are located on top of the concourse. Stairs at each end of the concourse provided access from the ground level. The structural system consists of precast hollow-core planks with a 2-inch cast-in-place bonded overlay.
Shortly after construction, they were leaking into occupied areas below the concourse developed at several locations, mostly through cracks in the overlay that developed over hollow core plank joints. Several attempts to repair the leaks did not fully resolve the leaking into occupied space.
WGI performed a condition appraisal of the concourse to identify the source and extent of the leaking/moisture problems and provide recommendations and an estimated construction cost for repair. The primary source of leaking into the occupied space was attributable to the cracks in the concrete topping above the precast plank joints and at the concourse’s perimeter. WGI provided design, bidding, and construction administration services. Repairs included concrete delamination repairs, concrete replacement along cracks, joint sealant replacement, removal, and deck coating replacement. These repairs successfully eliminated all leaks into the occupied space below the concourse.
