A seven-level 1,390-space parking structure was built next to the vertically expanded existing structure at the Amtrak-MTA BWI Station. The condensed construction timeframe, using the Design-Build process, allowed MTA to open additional parking prior to the holiday travel season.
A bus-only access drive was designed to allow airport shuttle service from both garages. Bridges across this bus lane link the two garages, allowing patrons complete access to all parking. Pay-on-foot and monthly card access reduce exiting time.
Internal sensors transmit space availability data to the control computer for display on variable-message signs, directing patrons to areas with available parking.
