Amtrak Station Site Improvements

Client:
Leon County Department of Public Works
Market:
Transportation, New Mobility & Autonomous Vehicles
Location:
Leon County, Florida

Project Details

Built in the late 1850s, Tallahassee’s historic Amtrak Station is one of the oldest railroad buildings in Florida and was added to the U. S. National Register of Historic Places in 1997. Leon County proposed restoration of the building and renovations to the site. WGI was contracted to provide civil engineering, land planning, and survey services to create hardscape and landscape gathering areas to enhance access and connectivity for both pedestrians and vehicular traffic.

The project area encompasses roughly 2.5 acres, with three existing structures, including the historic Amtrak Station. WGI provided services on over an acre of impervious area (parking area, driveways, sidewalks, etc.) and 630 feet of storm sewer. WGI performed boundary and topographic surveys of the project area and permitting of site construction plans. WGI also worked closely with a geotechnical sub-consultant to provide a geotechnical investigation and pavement recommendation.

The project included complete reconstruction of the parking area, driveways, and sidewalks, including the addition of two new driveways and stormwater conveyance system. Construction administration assistance will be provided post design.
