Also known as US 98, the coastal highway required a 3R survey, combined with a full DTM for a proposed bike path. As part of our districtwide survey contract, WGI worked with the planner, Kimley-Horn, and the design team, Gortemoller Engineering, and FDOT, to provide a detailed survey scope for this unique project. Typical cross-sections on the existing roadway were combined with a more detailed surface for the future bike trail along this 14.2-mile corridor. Survey activities required close adherence to MOT requirements while dealing with high-speed traffic. WGI’s efforts included utility designations tested holes, and coordination with environmentalists to determine the limits of wetlands and gopher tortoises. This new corridor connects with existing bike paths to allow for the overall trail network to extend from the southern portion of Tallahassee to the historic town of St. Marks and extend as far west as Crawfordville.Â
