WGI was selected to provide an independent evaluation of the condition of the Clearwell structure at its East Water Treatment Plant. The evaluation involved access into the drained Clearwell (which was accomplished in two days), concrete soundings of the wall and roof, photo documentation of any deficiencies, and mapping of the deficiencies for repair quantities.
WGI reviewed the x-ray film for reinforcing size and configuration. An evaluation report was produced, including a map of the observed deficiencies and, in conjunction with other team members, an Opinion of Probable Cost was presented. Subsequent to the report, the City of Boynton Beach requested that the team provide a Design-Build proposal for the repair and upgrade of the Gallery III slab and the repair of Gallery V(s) beam crack identified during the Clearwell assessment. WGI was engaged in the structural design services for the Design-Build.
One gallery location (gallery roof/corridor floor) was inadequately designed with little or no live load capacity. WGI created a composite reinforced concrete slab design, which allowed the existing slab to act as formwork for the newly reinforced concrete replacement slab. This allowed portions of the Clearwell to operate without compromising the process.
