The single-supported parking deck located at 205 Lawrence Street in Marietta was reviewed by WGI in 2014 to assess the structure’s integrity. The deck was constructed in 1977 via a pan joist construction and provided approximately 120 parking spaces. The deck is owned and operated by the City of Marietta and provides parking for visitors on the upper level and employees on the lower level. The deck was observed to be in moderate condition with a worn traffic-bearing membrane and large areas on the topside slab and overhead concrete spalls/delamination. The concrete spalls result from water and chloride ion (road salt) migration through cracks and other cavities in the slab, causing excessive corrosion of embedded mild steel reinforcing. The following year, a repair program was developed for the City to address most of the repair items identified. Repair items included:
- Topside slab repairs
- Overhead/soffit slab repairs
- Concrete wall/column repairs
- Concrete curb repairs
- Recoat traffic-bearing membrane
- Pedestrian rail upgrade
- New expansion joints
- Joint sealant installation
Project Highlights:
- Structural inspection
- Phased to minimize the impact
- Completed on time and budget
