The City of Beckley partnered with WGI to update its 2014 Comprehensive Plan. The comprehensive plan update represents a strategic vision, incorporating diverse elements such as land use, housing, transportation, infrastructure, public services, rural development, recreation, economic vitality, community design, renewal, financing, and historic preservation. The multidisciplinary team at WGI managed the project from start to finish.

Through the course of the 9-month project period, the team reviewed all the relevant documents, implemented an inclusive public engagement strategy, documented existing conditions, and incorporated existing local plans into a new community vision. From that vision and working with city officials, the team also provided a diagnostic and strategic approach to preliminary zoning and subdivision regulations. Lastly, recommendations for areas of future research and analysis and benchmarking future studies to track real-world progress over time are incorporated into the Beckley 2045 Comprehensive Plan.
