Delray Beach Pavilion is an iconic landmark located at the corner of Atlantic Avenue and A1A, providing shaded seating with an ocean view. A pavilion has occupied this site since 1912, with several reconstructions over the past century due to hurricane damage, the most recent occurring in 2013.
WGI was engaged by the City of Delray Beach to perform a structural assessment of the existing pavilion. Our team identified significant corrosion at many of the structural connections, and analysis showed that the original design did not meet current Florida Building Code wind-load requirements, resulting in overstressed columns. WGI presented both strengthening and replacement options for the columns, and the City selected full column replacement.
WGI provided structural, architectural, and electrical engineering services to replace deficient components while preserving the pavilion’s historic aesthetic. Several existing wood elements were salvaged and reused, and creative design solutions, such as steel columns wrapped in wood cladding, were implemented to maintain the original appearance and meet dimensional constraints.
At WGI, we creatively transform how our world is envisioned, designed, and experienced. Our expert team of professional engineers is ready to help.
