City Park is a 330-acre urban park and neighborhood in Denver, which contains the Denver Zoo, the Denver Museum of Nature and Science and more. In designing this 411-space parking structure for the Denver Zoo, WGI’s challenge was to “let the zoo experience begin when visitors enter the parking area.” The challenge was met with whimsical signage, taped animal sounds broadcast into the garage and friendly pedestrian paths. This parking structure was built to relieve parking congestion for zoo and City Park patrons.
• One level of parking at the ground level and three underground levels
• Two-way traffic flow with many large spaces for vans and sport utility vehicles
• Efficient exterior speed ramp allows 100 percent flat floors for parking, an important feature for parents with strollers
• Fully-painted interior for lighting, visibility and safety
• Cast-in-place post-tensioned concrete long-span beams and slabs
• Special concrete additives to promote durability
