WGI was responsible for the preparation of roadway and signing and pavement marking plans required for improvements to the Florida Turnpike/Lake Worth Road
interchange. These improvements consisted of modifications to the northbound and southbound entrance ramps to increase the number of lanes between the toll
plaza and the bridge over the Turnpike mainline while improving an existing merge condition.
The existing bridge over the E-2 Canal, a Lake Worth Drainage District facility, was also widened as part of the proposed improvements to the interchange. Additionally, channel improvements were made to the E-2 Canal near the bridge widening; stormwater management facilities were revised to accommodate the additional pavement; safety improvements were made where deficiencies were found, and public involvement was facilitated as part of the project.
WGI successfully permitted this project with South Florida Water Management District and the Lake Worth Drainage District. Other services completed as part of the design effort included geotechnical investigations, utility coordination, and design survey.
