This project consisted of 2 phases, totaling 38.1 miles of new 24” high pressure gas main and associated facilities. The purpose of the project was to provide a reliable source of natural gas to the new energy center in Riviera Beach, Florida as part of the Clean Energy Center modernization initiative. The new pipeline corridor is located within the existing FPL 500-kV transmission line corridor on the north end of the project, the existing CSX Railroad right-of-way, and the FDOT State Road 710 right-of-way. The new pipeline runs parallel to an existing 18” pipeline already in service, thus minimizing the impacts to the environment and adjacent properties. This pipeline project includes several roadway and railroad bores and 3 horizontal directional drills crossing 2 canals and 1 town totaling over 6,800 feet.
WGI was selected by FPL to provide services including, video inventory for the corridor prior to ground breaking by the contractor; inventory of the new pipe as it arrived by rail; staking the alignment for clearing and construction; and providing final as-builts of the new pipe as it was being placed in the ground. In addition, WGI performed final cross-sections throughout the entire right-of-way to ensure wetlands and drainage were restored to pre-existing conditions. The project required close coordination with FPL, CSX, FDOT, and ACOE. Field and office staff were trained in Maintenance of Traffic, Environmental procedures, FPL’s safety six, and were certified in CSX Railroad Worker Safety prior to mobilizing on the project.
