H.H. McGuire VAMC Richmond Parking Structure

Client:
U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs
Market:
Parking
Location:
Richmond, Virginia

Project Details

WGI provided parking consulting and waterproofing/durability design for a new 373-space parking structure on the campus of the H.H. McGuire VA Medical Center in Richmond.

The project includes improved traffic flow and safe pedestrian access to the main hospital and mental health facility, security improvements, access-control gates for the ambulance dock, and a new pedestrian drop-off for the outpatient clinic. The design team coordinated with VA staff to identify the need for long-term solutions that provide flexibility for future growth, including a horizontal expansion to the west that will nearly double the garage’s size. Design considerations included vehicle barriers at outpatient drop-off, bus/shuttle covered canopy dropoff, physical security integration, aesthetic coordination with campus architecture, emergency generators, and more.

Project Highlights:

• Direct connectivity to both mental health and outpatient services
• Designed for future horizontal expansion
• Glass-backed elevators
• Glass-enclosed stairs
• Architecturally integrated fall protection on top-level
• Covered canopy drop-off
