HEFT Widening and Express Lanes from SR 836 to Bird Road

Project Details

Widening and extensive improvements of the Homestead Extension of Florida's Turnpike (HEFT) mainline from the existing eight-lane section to a 10-lane section required numerous WGI design services.  

They included dedicated express lanes; drainage improvements; ramp improvements at the SW 8th Street (Tamiami Trail) Interchange, including realignment of the SW off-ramp to westbound SW 8th Street and new bridge crossing over the C-4 (Tamiami) Canal; replacement of the SW 24th Street (Coral Way) Bridge; constructing new flyover ramp connector bridges providing direct median access to and from the HEFT express lanes and SR 836; widening of the HEFT mainline bridges over SW 8th Street and West Flagler Street; traffic rail upgrades to the existing C-2 (Snapper Creek) Canal Bridge at the northbound off-ramp to SW 8th Street; new overhead span truss and cantilever signs and DMS signs along the corridor; column strengthening at the side street bridge crossings of SW 8th and West Flagler Streets; signalization upgrades at SW 8th Street and Coral Way; a new overhead gantry structure at the northbound ramp at SW 8th Street; and milling and resurfacing existing travel lanes and ramp connections.

Project Cost $111,500,000.00
