WGI completed a condition survey of the 25-story tower, the plaza, and the parking garage for the State of Kentucky Capital Complex. The investigation of the tower included a review of the exterior building façade and roof parapet. The structure is constructed of a combination of cast-in-place, pre-stressed, and post-tensioned concrete. The exterior facade is constructed of exposed cast-in-place concrete at the columns and parapet, precast concrete panels at window mullions, and an aluminum window and spandrel panel system.
The review produced a report complete with findings, conclusions, and restoration recommendations. After the State had completed reviewing the report, WGI produced construction documents, including drawings and specifications, for the recommended repairs. The anticipated cost of façade restoration for the tower, including concrete repairs, waterproofing repairs, and coating the concrete, is $3M.
