The 2,000-space Leamington Municipal Transit Hub was conceived as the cornerstone of a plan to remove some of the congestion, fumes and noise caused by buses in downtown Minneapolis. Located near the Minneapolis Convention Center, the Leamington Municipal Transit Hub is a multi-modal facility incorporating an express/shuttle bus terminal in the lower two levels with provisions for future connection to an underground light rail system.
Having addressed a variety of user, owner and community needs, the facility received the International Parking Institute’s Award of Excellence in Parking Design. It also received the Award for Excellence in Parking Design from the Institutional & Municipal Parking Congress.
• Six-bay concentric double-thread helix system with one-way traffic
• Six glass-backed elevators and three glass-backed stair towers
• Climate-controlled skyway link with the convention center and downtown district
• Closed-circuit television and audio security systems
• Cast-in-place post-tensioned concrete long-span beams and slabs
• Architectural precast concrete facade panels with colored granite aggregate
