NAS Whiting Field AHTS SUE

The Military Construction Project P-282, Advanced Helicopter Training System Flight Simulator Facility, Naval Air Station (NAS) Whiting Field near Milton, Florida, was awarded to WGI for our experience with Subsurface Utility Engineering on military bases and for our extensive knowledge of the underground utilities at NAS Whiting Field. WGI performed an American Society of Civil Engineers (ASCE) 38-02 Quality Level A Utility investigation on the conflict utilities defined by the Engineer of Record (EOR). Field and Office staff worked closely with base public works personnel to obtain existing utility information and station digging permits to minimize construction conflicts and utility impacts. This effort assisted the EOR with the horizontal and vertical information on said utilities used in the design and construction phases of this project. 

Project Highlights: 

• It is always challenging working on and around military bases due to base access clearance, station digging permits, and site restrictions. This project was completed ahead of schedule while dealing with base access clearance and station digging permit delays due to COVID-19.
