NE Cholokka Blvd From US 441 to NE 6th Ave Sidewalk Improvement Local Area Project (LAP)

The project included proposed sidewalk improvements along the north and south sides of NE Cholokka Boulevard from NE 8th Avenue to NE 6th Avenue in the historic town of Micanopy, Florida. Numerous mature trees line the existing street; these trees are extremely important to the Town and residents of Micanopy. A WGI Certified Arborist performed a tree assessment to determine if proposed sidewalk and minor drainage improvements along NE Cholokka Boulevard would have a detrimental impact to the health and well-being of the mature and historic trees. WGI performed the assessment and provided expert testimony before the Town Council and citizens of Micanopy for the Town to determine whether the project is in their best interest. Despite the fact that the Florida Department of Transportation had approved the funding for this infrastructure improvement, the Town of Micanopy decided not to move forward with the project due to concerns regarding impacts to these trees.
