Northgate District

Client:
City of College Station
Market:
Development, Hospitality & Resorts, Residential, Retail
Location:
City of College Station, Texas

Project Details

The Northgate District contains a diverse mixture of retail, restaurants, religious centers, nightclubs, and residential areas, including many single-family homes. The area is a significant generator of late-night activity for the City of College Station. It has increasingly become the home to many more students, generating new challenges within the right-of-way. Due to the growth of Texas A&M University (TAMU), the changing nature of the area has strained the public realm with traffic congestion, an increased need for public space amenities, and a desire for additional businesses and services.

WGI completed a comprehensive inventory of every mode within the boundary area along with existing lighting and gathered stakeholder feedback to determine residents, employees, and visitors’ needs. After identifying those transportation needs, WGI developed a comprehensive list of improvements based on a multi-modal approach to create a vision for the neighborhood. The feasibility of the improvements and timeline and cost for implementation were analyzed for each improvement. Being mindful of financial limitations, WGI developed an implementation plan that identified short, medium, and long-term actions complete with planning-level cost estimates.
